ALL KANSAS RESIDENTS WILL NEED A REAL ID BY OCTOBER 2021*
Most Kansas Residents will receive their new Real ID when their driver's license is required to be renewed. Those whose license does not expire until after October 2021* will be notified of when to obtain the new Real ID (as long as contact information is up to date with KS Dept. of Revenue).
Kansas residents who have presented acceptable Real ID documentation during a prior office visit from 2011 or later are automatically qualified for a Real ID compliant Kansas Driver's License or Identification Card and do not have to present those documents again. These will have the Real ID compliant symbol printed on their card. Kansas residents who have not presented acceptable Real ID documentation will have the “NOT FOR FEDERAL ID” statement printed on their card. Starting October 2020 you will need a Real ID for airline boarding, entering federal buildings, or entering military bases. You do not need a Real ID to drive, vote, or verify age.
